A scarce first edition of Thomas Fleming Day’s Bristol Jack and Other Poems, privately printed in New York in 1922 in a limitation of only 100 copies. This is hand-numbered No. 79.

More importantly, it is a genuine author presentation copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper:

“To Robert Frothingham / with the writer’s best wishes / Thos Fleming Day / May 9, 1923.”

Thomas Fleming Day was a prominent American yachtsman, yacht designer, and the founding editor of The Rudder. He also helped establish the first New York-to-Bermuda yacht race in 1906. The recipient, Robert Frothingham, was a journalist, travel writer, and anthology editor whose sea-related work included Songs of the Sea and Sailors’ Chanteys. This makes the book a direct maritime-literary association copy.

The volume contains nautical and historical verse, including “Bristol Jack,” “Columbia to Her Crew,” “The Wrecks,” “Cromwell,” and other poems. An appealing book for collectors of maritime literature, yachting, sailing history, American poetry, The Rudder, Thomas Fleming Day, or Robert Frothingham material.
