Published in 1906 by Houghton, Mifflin & Company, The Flock by Mary Austin is a classic work of Western American literature beautifully illustrated by E. Boyd Smith. This first edition features the original publisher’s decorative cloth binding with gilt and white pictorial sheep motif on the front cover and ram’s head decoration on the spine.
The book is dedicated to “The Friendly Folk in Inyo and the People of the Book” and contains numerous full-page illustrations with tissue guards. Binding remains sound and pages are clean with only light age-related toning. Covers show modest wear at the corners and spine ends consistent with age.
A handsome example of an increasingly collectible Mary Austin first edition.
