The Crossing
By Winston Churchill — the American novelist (1871–1947), not the British prime minister. New York: The Macmillan Company, 1904. Original 1904 Macmillan edition; the copyright page carries the statement “Published May, 1904.”
An important early American historical novel set against the Kentucky frontier and the westward movement after the Revolution. Churchill was one of the most widely read American novelists of his era, and The Crossing was published with atmospheric color illustrations by Sydney Adamson and Lilian Bayliss.
Complete illustrated copy. This copy has all seven original color plates: the frontispiece plus plates facing pages 28, 100, 224, 308, 380, and 484. The volume has 598 numbered text pages, preliminary pages, and two rear advertising pages.

Condition

Good antique condition overall; no dust jacket. Original burgundy/red cloth with gilt and blind-stamped decoration. The gilt title and decoration remain attractive, and the interior pages and color plates appear clean and readable.
Please note the exterior wear clearly: there is heavy fraying and cloth loss at the head and tail of the spine, rubbing to the corners and edges, and a small abrasion/mark to the cover. The book is sold as shown. Please review all photographs carefully for the exact condition and detail.
You will receive the exact 1904 copy pictured, complete with its seven color plates. No dust jacket is included.
