Washington and His Generals, Volume I, by J. T. Headley. New York: Hurst & Company, publishers, 134–136 Grand Street. This is the undated Hurst reprint, bibliographically associated with an 1888 Hurst issue; it is not the original 1847 first edition.
Volume I only. The original work was issued in two volumes; no Volume II is included. The book has a printed dedication to Henry Dwight, Jr., a Washington portrait frontispiece with tissue guard, and the Argyle Press printer’s imprint at 265 & 267 Cherry Street, New York.
Condition: Good antique condition. Original dark-green cloth boards are present, with rubbing, surface scuffs/marks, light discoloration, worn corners, and fraying/wear at the spine ends. Gilt spine lettering remains partly visible. Binding appears intact in the supplied photos. Interior pages shown are clean and legible with age toning and occasional light foxing/spotting, including to the tissue guard/endpaper area. There is a pencil gift/ownership inscription dated May 26, 1893 on a blank preliminary leaf; the handwritten names are not confidently transcribed. No dust jacket. Please review all photographs for the exact condition and contents.
A solid illustrated late-19th-century Washington and American Revolution history, priced as a single-volume Hurst reprint rather than as a complete set. You will receive the exact Volume I shown.
