Antique Original Hand-Pulled Etching – Pencil Signed “Pataky?”
Beautiful antique original etching depicting a detailed rural pastoral scene with a mounted horseman, seated figures, dogs, wagons, livestock, farm structures and a large haystack against an expansive landscape.
The work is an original intaglio etching, with a clearly visible plate impression in the paper. It is printed on older laid/rag-type paper and is signed in pencil at the lower right. The signature appears to read “Pataky.”
The subject and signature prompted research into Hungarian artist László Pataky von Sóspatak (1857–1912), who was known for Hungarian rural and genre subjects. However, the artist attribution has not been definitively established, and this piece is therefore being offered as an unidentified signed etching rather than as an authenticated work by László Pataky.
The work was reviewed photographically by Virág Judit Gallery & Auction House in Budapest, which provided an approximate market-value opinion of $400–500, while noting that the artist and subject have a limited specialist collector market. Their opinion did not provide a definitive attribution of the artist.
