A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway, published by The Franklin Library, Franklin Center, Pennsylvania, in 1979. Illustrated by Bernard Fuchs. 307 pages.
An attractive illustrated collector’s edition of Hemingway’s classic novel of love and loss during World War I. This edition features a reddish-brown leather spine with raised bands, matching cloth-covered boards with elaborate gilt decoration, gilt page edges, marbled endpapers, and an attached ribbon bookmark.
This is a quarter-leather binding—not full leather—and a 1979 reprint, not the original 1929 first edition.
Condition: Good used condition. The decorative gilt remains attractive. Cloth boards show very well with minor, scatttered pale spotting/mottling, light scuffs, and little rubbing at the edges and corners. Small pale specks are visible on the spine. Gilt page edges show spotting and wear. Foxing is noticeable on the opening leaves, with lighter spotting on the final page; the interior text pages shown are substantially cleaner, with mild age toning. Binding is solid. Marbled endpapers and ribbon bookmark are present. No dust jacket included.
