Selling as a three-book lot: Little Rivers: A Book of Essays in Profitable Idleness, Days Off and Other Digressions, and The Unknown Quantity: A Book of Romance and Some Half-Told Tales by Henry Van Dyke.
These are early Charles Scribner’s Sons reprints, not first printings: Little Rivers is an October 1904 reprint; Days Off is a December 1907 reprint; and The Unknown Quantity is a March 1912 reprint.
The real appeal is the matching original dark navy-blue decorative cloth bindings designed by Margaret Neilson Armstrong. Each book has a different elaborate Art Nouveau-style gilt and colored front-board design, including lilies, dragonflies, fruit, and botanical ornament. Together, they make a striking display group for collectors of Armstrong bindings, American book design, Henry Van Dyke, decorative antique books, essays, fiction, or nature writing.
Condition is Good+ to Very Good overall. The decorative gilt and colored elements remain bright and attractive. All three books have light shelf rubbing, scattered surface marks, small scuffs/nicks at corners and spine ends, and normal age toning and soiling to the page edges. The plain rear boards show light handling wear. Interiors shown are clean and unmarked with normal age toning. Bindings appear sound in the photos. Illustrations are present as photographed. No dust jackets.
Please review all photos carefully for exact condition and included contents. The exact three books shown are included and will be packed securely for shipment.
